Ramgarh
Located amidst the towering hills of Ramgarh in the Udaipur development block—part of the Sarguja district headquarters—stands the ancient Ram Janaki Temple, situated at an elevation of approximately 1,100 feet on the Ramgarh hill. It is believed that during his period of exile, Lord Rama rested within the forested terrain surrounding this temple site. The hill itself is home to several notable features—including the Ram Janaki Kund, Bade Turra, Chandan Mitti, and the Hathipol Cave—as well as the world-renowned ancient Natyashala (theater), which was established by Bharat Muni in 200 B.C. According to inscriptions, this stands as the oldest theater in the world. Also present are the Jogimara and Sitabengra caves; local legend holds that Lord Rama and Goddess Sita resided here for a period during their exile. These associated sites are protected monuments under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India.
