    Tatapani Mahotsav

In the Balrampur district, on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, a three-day Sankranti festival has been organized annually by the district administration for approximately the past 15 years. During this event, a fair is hosted—primarily for entertainment purposes—featuring cultural programs presented by local artists from the Sargujia and Bhojpuri traditions. A three-day Sankranti fair is held at this venue, where members of the local tribal community gather at Tatapani to observe their religious customs and beliefs. People from the neighboring state of Jharkhand—residing near the Kanhar River, adjacent to Ramanujganj—also arrive in large numbers to celebrate the Sankranti festival. At the Tatapani Festival, visitors delight in the cultural heritage of the region surrounding the Kanhar River, as well as the unique blend of cultures characteristic of Ramanujganj and Balrampur. Furthermore, the festival serves as an avenue for local residents to generate income by selling handmade products and food items. Although the site witnesses a steady stream of visitors throughout the year, during the Tatapani Festival, hundreds of thousands of people flock to the location for both entertainment and religious observance.
